Caring For Your Furniture
Helping our customers understand how to care for their furniture is one of the most important elements of what we do. The simple fact is that you don’t actually have to do anything. The furniture will not break, but it may show signs of wear and tear over the years depending on how you take care of it. Some customers love the furniture to show signs of use and life and develop it’s own story of time and some customers like to keep their furniture in brand new condition. Either way, there is no wrong or right, but we are here to help and advise no matter which camp you are in.
Mill Sawn Pine Furniture
All of our Mill Sawn Pine Furniture is handmade by us in our own workshop. Each piece is sanded by hand by one of our dedicated craftsmen. We check each piece is up to our high standard and quality. Your furniture is then lovingly waxed with two coats of Fiddes Supreme Wax in your chosen colour. When you have received your mill sawn pine furniture it will have just been freshly waxed. The wax will not have had time to fully harden so we advise that you take extra care in the first few weeks.
Hints & Tips
To maintain the colour and patina of your furniture we recommend you wax your furniture once a year or more if required.
Certain pieces that have heavier use will require more frequent waxing to help maintain durability and colour.
Always wipe with a warm damp cloth, making sure moisture is not left on the surface of the product. Do not use harsh chemical based cleaning or polishing products.
We recommend the use of place mats and coasters wherever necessary to prevent marking the furniture.
The appearance of your mill sawn pine furniture may change over time depending on its location. If the colour of your piece mellows over time you can easily re wax the furniture to bring it back to its original colour. The amount of wax you use depicts how much the colour will change.
How to apply
1. Using a lint free cloth simply apply the wax evenly over your furniture taking care not to leave streaks.
2. Remove any excess wax as you go. Do not let the wax dry before removing the excess.
3. Leave for around 30 minutes or so depending on room temperature.
4. Buff with a dry soft cloth to your desired sheen.
Please be careful not to over rub in a localised area as this can cause patchiness.
The appearance of marks and scratches can be reduced with the application of more wax. Be careful not to simply wax the affected area as this can cause contrasting colour differences, we recommend you always wax the full surface of your furniture at the same time.
Re Sawn Oak Furniture
All of our Re-Sawn Oak furniture is handmade by us in our own workshop. As always we check each piece individually ensuring quality control is kept at our usual high standard. Each piece is finished by us in our own unique way then treated with our signature oil. The oil we use is made from natural vegetable oils and waxes. The oils are resistant to water and dirt and extremely durable. Whilst the saw marks on the Re-Sawn Oak range add the distinctive character, our unique sanding process and signature oil softens the surface giving a beautifully tactile and silky finish.
Hints & Tips
Frequency of re-oiling depends on the amount of use and cleaning your furniture has had.

We always recommend the use of place mats and coasters to ensure your furniture stays in tip top condition. However the Re-Sawn Oak range which is finished with our signature oil is extremely durable with hot cups and spillages far less likely to leave a mark if an accident occurs.

How to apply
1. Using a lint free cloth or small sponge apply a thin layer of oil on the surface of the furniture with the grain where possible taking care not to leave excess oil on the surface of the furniture.
2. At room temperature the drying time can be between 8 and 16 hours depending on the amount of oil used.
3. The appearance of marks and scratches can be reduced with the application of more oil. Be careful not to simply oil the affected area as this can cause contrasting colour differences, we recommend you always oil the full surface of your furniture at the same time.
