How to Take Care of a Wooden Farmhouse Style Dining Table

A rustic farmhouse dining table is more than just a place to eat—it’s the centre of the home. From casual family dinners to celebrations with friends, it’s where memories are made. At Ashton & Coleman, every handmade rustic table is crafted to bring beauty, warmth, and strength into your dining room. And with a little care, your table will age gracefully and last for generations.

In this blog, we’ll share everything you need to know about maintaining your rustic wooden table, including simple cleaning habits, long-term protection tips, and the unique benefits of owning a British-made piece of furniture.

Understand the Character of Rustic Wood

No two Ashton & Coleman tables are alike—and that’s exactly the point. Each rustic plank table is made from solid, sustainably sourced wood, showcasing its natural knots, grain patterns, and imperfections. Whether you’ve chosen a chunky rustic table or a clean-lined modern rustic dining table, the beauty is in the character.

Solid wood furniture responds to its environment. Light, moisture, and temperature all influence how the wood behaves over time. Rather than hide this, we embrace it—your table tells a story and becomes more unique with age.

Daily and Weekly Care Tips

Taking care of your table doesn’t need to be complicated. These simple habits will keep it looking its best:

Dust it regularly using a soft microfibre cloth.
Wipe up spills immediately to avoid staining or water damage—always blot, don’t rub.
Use mild soap and warm water for sticky spots. Avoid chemical-heavy products that can damage the wood’s finish.
Dry thoroughly after any cleaning to protect the wood from moisture absorption.

Protect Your Farmhouse Table

To maintain the finish and extend your table’s life, it’s a good idea to build a few protective habits:

Use coasters, placemats, and table runners to prevent heat rings, stains, and scratches.
Avoid direct sunlight and radiators, which can cause wood to fade or warp.
Never use harsh chemical cleaners—especially those containing bleach, ammonia, or silicone.

Refreshing the Finish Over Time

Our tables are often finished with natural oils or waxes that enhance the grain while offering protection. Over time, depending on use and environment, you may want to reapply the finish.

Re-oiling once a year is generally enough to keep the wood nourished and looking fresh. Use a high-quality oil and apply along the grain.
For scratches or marks, light sanding followed by re-oiling can restore the original beauty.

This occasional care allows your rustic wooden table to maintain its rich character without losing its functionality or charm.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Having had Indigo furniture in the past, that was heavy, good quality furniture, I was mildly apprehensive about what I would be getting 15 years later from another company over the phone.
The quality is in fact better and the finish is of a higher standard and the old irritations have been rectified. I had a bespoke triple wardrobe made that is superb.
Rest assured it's the same but better!- Look no further!
